History of North Sonoma The Pomo People first settled here and created their villages along the Russian River. Anglo-American, Russian, and Mexican settlements started to develop in the mid-19th century. 1857 brought the founding of Healdsburg when Harmon Heald purchased the land and eventually the town gained traction with the creation of the Northwest pacific Railroad.
